The Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) is designed to recognize and promote effective safety and health management. In the VPP, management, labor, and TOSHA establish a cooperative relationship at a workplace that has implemented a strong program: Jim Flanagan will discuss the TN STAR VPP and the future for STAR Program.

Middle TN Chapter Receives National Publicity for Driver Safety School

The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) recognizes Keith Bain of Chubb Group and the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the ASSE. Our Driver Safety School was used as an example during the NETS Drive Safely to Work Week campaign and featured in the Focus 360 publication. See the attached article, pg 3.

October Chapter Meeting

The Middle TN Chapter met with Titan's General Manager of LP Field (Walter Overton) and Director of Security (Steve Burke); visited the Command Center, Locker Room, and LP Field.

Middle TN Chapter honors outgoing President Bill Boehm for his service to our chapter. Bill has moved to Louisville, KY for a new job.

Announces 2011 Scholarship Awards

A total of $9,000 in scholarships have been awarded to area students in occupational health and safety. The scholarships will be awarded during the Tennessee Safety and Health Congress on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, TN.

Middle Tennessee Chapter of the ASSE Donates $10,000 to the Campus for Human Development/Room In The Inn

At the Chapter's monthly meeting in April, we visited the Room In The Inn facility in downtown Nashville and presented them a $10,000 check to help support their mission to serve the homeless in the Nashville area. The Middle Tennessee Chapter has been supporting the Campus for Human Development, Room In The Inn and Guest House for over 40 years.

Past Presidents Honored

The Middle Tennessee Chapter of the ASSE presented Outstanding Service awards to three of their most recent Past Chapter Presidents. The awards were presented by current Chapter President, Bill Boehm at their September 13, 2010 Chapter meeting.

2010 Middle Tennessee Chapter Scholarship Winners Announced

The Scholarship Committee of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the ASSE has selected the 2010 scholarship winners.

“In addition to the Harold F. Polston and Keith Bain scholarships, we are very pleased to be able to award six more scholarships this year for a total of $10,000.
Each of these scholarship recipients have met the high academic and eligibility requirements along with excelling in a challenging curriculum of Occupational Safety and Health”, said Ron A. Kirsch, Ph.D., Chair of the Scholarship Committee. “On behalf of the Scholarship Committee, congratulations to the winners!”

The $2,000 Harold F. Polston Harold F. Polston Scholarship was awarded to Lauren Hobbs of Murray State University. The $2,000 Keith Bain Scholarship was awarded to Jenna Lake of Murray State University.

The following students from Middle Tennessee State University and Murray State University will be awarded $1,000 scholarships:
